About Mahi Magnets

Kia Ora, we are a group of 5 teenage girls from St Oran's College starting up a Young Enterprise business. When we first started our company, one of the problems we all saw was the lack of access to the use and learning of Te Reo Māori in work spaces.

We got thinking about what we could do to help resolve this issue, and that created the concept of Mahi Magnets. We will be producing a small magnet with an originally crafted blessing on it. Our blessing will be universal, so it can be used before a business meeting, a school lesson, a dinner at home, or simply to kick off the day positively, with a group.  At Mahi Magnets our mission is to encourage the accessibility of Te Reo Māori in workspaces while keeping our values in mind, Whakauru (inclusion), Mana (respect), Mahi Tahi (teamwork) and Akoranga (learning).

Our Logo

Our Logo is a box with two Mangōpare (hammerhead sharks) around the outside. We have selected these symbols as they are used in Te Ao Maori to symbolise strength, teamwork and leadership which we feel fits our product well. We have also chosen the slogan ‘blessed at your convenience’ as we think it portrays the mission of our company to promote the accessibility of Te Reo Maori in workplaces.

About Our Name

Mahi Magnets

We chose the name Mahi Magnets because we feel as though it represents our brand well. The word 'mahi' is the Māori word for work, we feel as though this is relevant to our company as we are producing magnets to encourage the use of Te Reo Māori in workspaces. We also feel the word mahi is related to learning new things which is what we are striving for in the hope that more people are willing to learn and incorporate Te Reo into their day to day life.
